Turtle Race Winners!

A record-setting 462 turtle racers entered Longville’s downtown circle to make memories and compete for fame and fortune. It was the largest race day hosted this summer and, at the close of competition, it was a Minnesota sweep.

Grand champion was Tiara Boisselier, age  11, of New Hope, Minnesota. The Grand Slowpoke title went to Ethan Happe, age 8, of Savage, Minnesota.  In the Chamber Resort Race, a turtle raced by Connor Grams, age 6, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, crossed the finish line ahead of 10 other racers. Connor represented Balsam Bay Resort.

Longville was blessed with perfect race weather that day and everyone enjoyed the games, contests, food and fun. The Longville Chamber would like to thank all of the volunteers who make this event possible, especially race announcer John Weins, assisted by Sandy Weins and Cheryl Adams.

We would also like to recognize our race judges, Anna Likens, Aly Wicks, Sam Shepard and Pat Boen, and the volunteers from VFW Post 772, Camp Olson YMCA and Luther Dell Bible Camp.

There are only two turtle races left this season, Aug. 12 and 19. Race registration and the contests and games open at 1 p.m. The Chamber Resort Race is held at 2 p.m., followed by the regular turtle races. Race registration is $3, which includes the rental of a turtle (or you can bring your own). Proceeds benefit community activities sponsored by the Longville Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
