Turtle Race Winners!

Longville closes out Turtle Race Season with 229 Contestants
Neither cold nor rain nor gusty winds could deter hardy turtle racers, their families — or the Longville Chamber’s dedicated volunteers — from holding the last turtle race of the 2015 season. Despite temperatures hovering below 60 degrees and intermittent showers, 223 racers competed in the regular turtle races, with another six in the Resort Chamber Race.
In the end, Jasmine Tyler, age 21, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, won Grand Champion honors. The Grand Slowpoke title went to Grant Larson, age 4, of Ham Lake, Minnesota. Winner of the Chamber Resort Race was Maylee Riley, age 7, of Creston, Iowa, representing Pine Haven Resort.
Although wind gusts prevented the use of most of the Chamber’s shelter tents, turtle racers and volunteers braved the damp and chilly weather to enjoy the final games and contests of the summer.
The Longville Chamber would like to thank all of the volunteers for a very successful turtle race season. Without them, this event would not be possible. Special thanks go to Gerry Broshar, for assisting with the race announcing, and head judge Pat Boen. We would also like to recognize the volunteers from VFW Post 772, Camp Olson YMCA and Luther Dell Bible Camp.
Longville turtle races will resume next June. Proceeds benefit community activities sponsored by the Longville Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
